Top 5 Easter Eggs in Games

It’s Easter! So, you guessed it, we’re going to talk about Easter Eggs. The ones found in video games of course, as much as we would love to go on about chocolate. Easter eggs are an intrinsic part of modern video gaming and have been for a long time. You will be hard pressed to find many games now that don’t have any easter eggs in no matter how small (or big).

An easter egg is a piece of code written into a game that creates something for the gamers to find. Usually, easter eggs are either a sequence of events the player can play through to achieve something or a place or thing that is hidden somewhere out of the way, like a hidden room or a random, killer ice cream truck as is the the case in Hitman: Absolution.

So, without further ado here are our top 5 video game easter eggs.

Wolfenstein 3D Level – Wolfenstein: The New Order

First on our list is a throwback to a classic precursor to Wolfenstein: The New Order. If you’re in the mood for a quick nap between missions, then why not spice up your dreams with a stroll down memory lane? When you’re in the safehouse, look for a dirty mattress on the floor, interact with it and relive a mission from the old Wolfenstein 3D in all its retro grandeur!

Minecraft Cave – Borderlands 2

As you can imagine, when 2 huge game titles collide the easter egg spawn from that is going to be epic. If you are fan of borderlands 2, check out the Minecraft cave! Tucked away in a hidden corner is an all too familiar slice of Minecraft. Complete with creepers, acting in their natural, explosive kind of fashion, with the rather aptly named ‘Baddass Creeper’ addition to keep you on your toes.

The Secret Cow Level – Diablo 2

After rumours about the hidden cow level in the first Diablo game (that turned out not to be true), the developers decided to respond to this and place a level, rather appropriately named ‘The Secret Cow Level’ within the next instalment of the Diablo series. In which you face hordes of ‘Hell Bovines’, giant weapon wielding cows.

The Balloons – Doom Eternal

Next up is Doom Eternal. The non-stop, monster blasting, gore inducing, chaos wreaking first person shooter has some of its own secrets. One of which is a challenge which requires you to find and burst 3 balloons hidden around the game, should you manage to accomplish this then you shall be rewarded with… well, we’ll let you find that out!

Jar Jar Binks – Star Wars Force Unleashed

Our last entry onto this list is a small easter egg in the Star Wars Force Unleashed game. We imagine it was to the delight of many Star Wars fans that subtly placed in the game, is the body of the “much loved” Jar Jar Binks frozen in carbonite.
